The Product is designed to give experienced offshore personnel the opportunity to practise and demonstrate emergency-response skills that cannot normally be rehearsed during routine offshore drills, with particular focus on correct EBS use, helicopter ditching and underwater escape, firefighting, self-rescue and emergency first aid.

Entry Certificate Requirements
An eligible in-date OPITO certificate is required.
Three connected areas of further emergency competence.
The Product Standard identifies Product 5917 as open to learners holding a valid, in-date OPITO-approved certificate from eligible BOSIET, Tropical BOSIET, FOET and Tropical FOET pathways, including EBS and recognised CA-EBS variants listed by the Standard.
The training centre must be able to provide evidence that these prerequisite requirements were satisfied if requested by OPITO.

Further training for personnel already working offshore.
Product 5917 is intended for personnel working within the offshore oil and gas industry who require further offshore safety and emergency-response training and who will use an Emergency Breathing System during offshore helicopter travel.
This is not an entry-level offshore programme.
It is designed for personnel who already hold an eligible, in-date OPITO qualification and now need to refresh, practise and demonstrate critical emergency skills previously developed through BOSIET or FOET training.
Your existing certification must satisfy the Product 5917 entry requirements.
Training requirements can vary by operator, region and aviation arrangement.

Three Mandatory Units
01 — OIS-444
Further Helicopter Safety and Escape — Tropical EBS
This is the core practical unit within Product 5917.
It refreshes: Helicopter emergency preparation, EBS knowledge, EBS operation, underwater, helicopter escape, push-out-window operation, capsize response and post-egress survival.
Learners must first demonstrate the required understanding before progressing into practical assessment. They are then observed completing the specified practical exercises and must successfully complete all required activities to achieve the unit.
The unit revisits the actions required when preparing for: helicopter ditching and emergency landing. This includes correct brace positions across the range of seating locations and restraint configurations encountered during offshore helicopter travel.
The objective is to reconnect emergency preparation with the physical escape actions that follow.


02 — OIS-75
Further Emergency First Aid
The first-aid unit is not intended to repeat the learner's original BOSIET programme.
OPITO specifically states that delivery should concentrate on enhancing learning gained during previous BOSIET or FOET training.
Learners refresh their understanding of:
First-aid arrangements, bleeding, burns, chemical contact, prioritising actions, scene safety, casualty assessment, airway and breathing, and recovery-position principles.
03 — OIS-74
Further Firefighting and Self Rescue
Learners practise: raising the alarm on discovering a fire and correctly operating portable fire extinguishers against Class A or Class B fires.
Each learner must practise using: Water or Foam and CO₂ portable extinguishers.
Training staff may also demonstrate small-bore hose reels and fire blankets where appropriate and where sufficient time is available.
Learners practise self-rescue from environments where visibility is:
Reduced
Movement and escape while normal visual references are limited.
Completely Obscured
Escape when visual information is effectively unavailable.
Group-Based
Small-group escape from completely obscured conditions, concluding with a muster exercise.



Why Tropical FOET with EBS?
Critical emergency skills need to be brought back into practice.
Offshore personnel may participate regularly in emergency drills, toolbox talks and safety exercises.
However, some emergency actions cannot realistically be repeated during normal offshore operations.

Suraksha Marine HUET Simulator
Train the escape in a controlled helicopter environment.
At Suraksha Marine, HUET practical training is delivered using a purpose-built helicopter underwater escape simulator designed to support controlled submersion, inversion and emergency egress exercises.
Product 5917 requires HUET systems to include representative helicopter seating and restraints, push-out windows, controlled lowering, at least 180° rotation, emergency stopping capability and rapid retrieval.

Push-Out Window Competence
Operate the exit before the most complex scenario.
An important assessment detail within the Product Standard is that although push-out windows are fitted for the final capsize exercise, the learner's ability to push out the window is assessed during the partial-submersion exercise.

Move from underwater escape into survival craft.
Product 5917 includes both dry evacuation into an aviation liferaft and liferaft boarding from the water.

Swimming Ability
You do not need to hide your swimming ability.
These groups must be clearly
identified during pool exercises.
The standard recognises: swimmers, weak swimmers and designated non-swimmers.
A maximum of two designated non-swimmer learners may participate in any one HUET pool exercise.

Shoulder Breadth Measurement
Where required locally, learners should hold a valid Shoulder Breadth Measurement before offshore helicopter travel.
Shoulder Breadth Measurement may be required depending on the applicable offshore aviation regime. Confirm your mobilisation requirement before booking.
Medical Requirements
Be fit for the practical demands of training.
The programme contains physically demanding and potentially stressful activities.
Learners must satisfy an acceptable
medical-entry route, which may include:

Further training should reactivate competence—not simply repeat content. A learner returning for Tropical FOET already has offshore emergency-training experience. The purpose of Product 5917 is therefore different from initial BOSIET.
